I agree with the coment: "The theme which I think Edgar Allan Poe is trying to express to his readers in this short story is that you shouldn´t run from something that you fear because it will come back to you and you will have to face it regardless of all efforts to escape from it."
Because i think that to overcome fear of something, we should face it to stop being afraid of it.
I think that the black clock represents that later or sooner death will always come and the masked figure represents a disease: the Black Death.
